How to make an Existing Raised Deck Waterproof Underneath

Waterproof upper deck using decking tiles

If you're looking for a simple way to create a dry area under your existing raised deck without the hassle of bringing in outside contractors or installing expensive under deck ceiling systems of aluminum or vinyl, then SwiftDeck could be your ideal answer.

It's quick, effective and you don't have to give up the warm, natural look of wood compared with alternative of laying PVC sheeting or aluminum products over the deck.

To make the existing deck waterproof, firstly you lay down EPDM sheeting over the entire deck. Try to ensure there are no seams so the moisture barrier is one continuous sheet. You can buy EPDM in different widths with lengths up to 50' wide from specialist suppliers such as Best Materials or Resource Conservation Technology or who can also custom fabricate a single sheet to avoid seams. They can supply a complete system that includes all required adhesives, sealants etc.

Just cut the EPDM sheet to fit the area you want to keep dry underneath. If you have pipes, posts or suchlike on your deck, you can seal around these using a sealant specifically designed for EPDM such as M-1 Sealant obtainable from e.g. Best Materials.

After you've laid the EPDM sheet, all you need to do is to click the SwiftDeck decking tiles into place over the top of the sheet. In no time at all you'll have a great looking wood deck on top and a dry area underneath.

And if you've got a concrete patio underneath and want to enhance the look of this area, then simply cover the patio with SwiftDeck Decking Tiles as well.
